The IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Student Chapter of the University of Jaffna successfully organized a technical talk on “AI in Power Systems” on 14 July 2026. The session focused on the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming modern power systems, smart grid technologies, and the future of energy management.

The technical session was delivered by Dr. Sekar K, Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Adithya Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, India. Dr. Sekar shared valuable insights into the integration of AI techniques with power system applications and highlighted how intelligent technologies are contributing to improved reliability, efficiency, automation, and decision-making in electrical power networks.

The event was held from 9.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. at the Second Floor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Jaffna. Students and academic members participated in the session and gained knowledge about the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence applications within the power and energy sector.

During the talk, participants explored the importance of AI-driven solutions in areas such as smart grid operation, power system monitoring, forecasting, optimization, and sustainable energy management. The session provided an excellent platform for students to enhance their understanding of future trends in electrical engineering and renewable energy technologies.
