Research area:

  • Traffic control
  • Traffic simulation modelling
  • Variable traffic demand forecasting
  • Feedback estimation
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
  • Pavement construction materials
  • Geopolymer

Summary of Research: Researcher’s primary focus is to develop an algorithm using feedback estimation techniques to estimate short-term, dynamic Origin-Destination (OD) traffic demand, which is indispensable for online traffic control and management. The algorithm tends to integrate a traffic simulation model in a feedback estimation framework. Traffic simulation models ranging from conventional macro models to sophisticated simulation software packages such as VISSIM are being studied for their applicability in terms of accuracy and computational effort. For feedback estimation framework, Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) technique is being focused presently. Applications covers both freeway and urban traffic networks, and various types of intelligent transportation systems information.
