Nishanthan is senior lecturer at Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna. He obtained his B.Sc.(Eng) degree from the University of Peradeniya in Year 2009. He completed his PhD at the Western Sydney University, Australia in 2014. His thesis investigated the excavation induced ground movements during urban construction. He worked as a Geotechnical Engineer in the piling industry prior to joining the Faculty of Engineering.
