A solar measuring station with online data transfer facility was installed at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna (UoJ) and operated by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) from March 2013. It was handed over to the Faculty of Engineering, UoJ on 19th December 2014 by Dr. Thushitha Sugathapala, Director General, SEA to the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering during a seminar session on sustainable energy development in Northern Province. It is one of the two calibrated solar measuring stations funded by ADB in Sri Lanka.
An agreement between University of Jaffna and SEA was already signed by the Senior Professor.Vasanthy Arasaratnam, Vice Chancellor,UoJ and Dr. Thisitha Sugathapala, Director General, SEA. The support of professionals from the Ministry of Power and Energy including Mr. Upali Daranagama, Mr. Sunith Fernando and Mr. Harsha Wickramasinghe with the leadership of Dr. T. Sugathapala is immense during the installation process of this solar measuring unit.
