Complete curriculum developed for the Faculty of Engineering

Detailed and comprehensive curriculum of the Faculty of Engineering is designed and approved by the Senate, University of Jaffna held in July 2016. This was carried out for last three years and finally come to the end. There have been many leading experts from local and foreign universities; and from the industries, helping us to design the curriculum. Dean, heads of the department and the lecturers took diligent care and effort to develop the curriculum to cater the needs of the present needs of engineering industry. The development of curriculum is based on Outcome Base Education (OBE) conforming to Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) requirements (National Standard for Engineering Education), Washington Accord requirements (International Standard for Engineering Education) and Sri Lanka Quality Framework (SLQF) requirements under the category of Bachelor Honours Degrees.

In a nutshell, the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna offers the Engineering degree program for four academic years (eight semesters) leading to the degree in Bachelor of the Science of Engineering, (BScEng). The degree program offers course units amount to 150 academic credits in various categories such as core (120), electives [technical (12) and complementary (12)] and industrial training (06). The curriculum of the degree program comprises of core structure of the program and detailed syllabi of general program (for first semesters, common for all engineering disciplines) and special program (for remaining five semesters). Presently, the following specializations are being offered at the Faculty of Engineering 1. Civil and Environmental Engineering; 2. Computer Engineering; 3. Electrical and Electronic Engineering; and 4. Mechanical and Process Engineering. The comprehensive curriculum can be accessed at the link Undergraduate Curriculum at URL. http://www.jfn.ac.lk/eng/ ➙ click on students ➙ click on undergraduate curriculum.

There were series of discussions, email communications and stakeholder meetings took place during the curriculum development process. We sincerely thank the following resource persons for coming forward to shoulder us in completing the very important milestone of the faculty.
