Dr. Achela Fernando is helping the Faculty on visiting basis

Dr. Achela Fernando, Adjunct Senior Lecturer from Griffith School of Engineering Nathan Campus Griffith University Australia, is helping the Faculty as visiting lecturer from 12th August 2015. She obtained BSc (Eng) Hon. Civil Engineering from University of Peradeniya in 1987. Her MEng degree was in Environmental & Sanitary Engineering, obtained from Kyoto University, Japan in 1992. She obtained her PhD from University of Hong Kong in 1997. She worked in many countries, obtained number of awards and publications and a well experienced lecturer.

Dr. Achela really enjoys community services. Her visit to the Faculty of Engineering was completely on voluntarily basis.

She delivered lecturers to the first batch of students specializing in Civil Engineering. She also helped preparing experimental setup while also conducting experiments. Further she helped to fine-tune the curriculum of the Department of Civil Engineering in her expert area of Fluid Mechanics, Water/Waste/Storm, Hydrology, Hydraulic modeling etc. in particular and Civil & Environmental Engineering in general. It is really a great opportunity for the students, learning from experienced lecturers in the relevant field of their study. The faculty staffs whole heartedly appreciate her sincere contribution to the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna.
