Rainfallmeasurement is established at Faculty premises

Rain gauge was donated by UN-CECAR project of UN University Tokyo, to the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna. This activity was implemented by Prof. SrikanthaHerath, Academic Director and Senior Academic Programme Officer, Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, United Nations University, Tokyo, Japanand Prof. S.B. Weerakoon, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya.

Department allocated operational responsible of the rain gauge to Mr. SaliyaSampath, who is a lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering. He did the installation of the instrument at Faculty whether station and now it is in full operation.

The continuous rainfall data of the Ariviyal Nagar can be collected from the Faculty of Engineering University of Jaffna. This device is designed in very economic and very simple method to get the accurate rainfall data with the time. The data will be freely available when a researcher contacts the Faculty of Engineering through an official request. This activity is mainly promoting research and development with possible accurate data for best sustainable development. The Faculty on behalf of the University of Jaffna thanks Prof S.B. Weerakoon and Professor SrikanthaHerath for their donation to motivate the research and development.
