Professor Kasivisvanathan Chelvakumar visited the Faculty

Dr. Kasivisvanathan Chelvakumar visited the Faculty of Engineeringon 28th August 2015 and hold discussions with dean and the staff about the possible services he can render to the Faculty. He agreed to come and serve the mechanical Engineering section of the department of Interdisciplinary studies on contract basis in the near future. We consider his vast knowledge and experience will immensely contribute to the development of the mechanical engineering as well to the faculty. As we are lacking of senior staff members in mechanical engineering presently, his timely assistance is very much appreciated.

Dr. Kasivisvanathan Chelvakumar graduated with BScEng degree with first class honours from the University of Peradeniya in 1980. He completed his MScEng and PhD at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences at California Institute of Technology with major specialization in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and minor specialization in Aeronautical Engineering in 1981 and 1985, respectively. He obtained a number of awards Valedictorian; Irvine Company Award for highest GPA; Beta Gamma Sigma; Dean’s Scholar; outstanding service award at University of California, Irvine, Ananda Amarasinghe Award for graduating first in the country at University of Peradeniya. He also obtained MBA from University of California Irvine in 2005. He had excellent professional experience in industries and held academic positions as adjunct professor at California State University from 1983 to 2001, Tenure-track assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University from 1985 to 1989. Currently he is a visiting professor at the Department Mechanical Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
