Mr. Sampath conducted two days of workshop on Introduction to GIS using ArcGIS

Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka (BUSL), Anuradhapura organized a 2 day workshop on Introduction to GIS using ArcGIS on 6th and 7th April 2017. Ven. Vice Chancellor of BUSL invited Mr. Saliya Sampath to conduct this workshop as a resource person.

Workshop was targeted for students and academic staff of Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Studies, Faculty of Language and Cultural Studies and Department of Practical Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Buddhist Studies of Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka. Workshop covered introduction and basic features of ArcGIS software, GPS hands on exercises and applications of GIS in Archeology research etc. This workshop was funded by Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka, Anuradhapura.

Around, 25 participants attended to the workshop. Most of them are final year (special) Buddhist monk students. Following resource persons enlightened the event.

Workshop coordinated and organized by together with B. Venura Lakshman, Computer Instructor of BUSL, Mr. Prabhath Pallewaththa, Assistant Registrar of BUSL, and Rev Galwewe Wimalakanthi Thero, Lecturer of BUSL.

Ven. Prof. Alahenegama Sumanaratana Thero Head, Department of Languages, Faculty of Language and Cultural Studies Ven. Kahatagasdigiliye Dhammaratana Thero, Head, Department of Practical Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Buddhist Studies, Mr. K. Gnasiri. Britto, Registrar of BUSL attended as special invitees of the inaugural session of the workshop. Ven. Galwewe Wimalakhanthi Thero, Lecturer, Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Studies, Faculty of Language and Cultural Studies conducted the inaugural session. End of the workshop certificates were distributed to participants.

Ven. Vice Chancellor of BUSL conveyed special sincere gratitude to Mr. D. S. Sampath, Lecturer, University of Jaffna and Miss Ashani Jayasinghe, Chief Executive Officer, GIS Solutions (PVT) LTD., Colombo for their kind support on organizing and logistic activities of this workshop.

Students’ feedbacks revealed that workshop was conducted very successfully. Therefore BUSL hope to conduct same workshop again on future as well.
