In good old days, Universities were fully recognized based on undergraduate teaching, then it was added with research and development. Today’s era it is also added with innovation and commercialization. As a result the UGC took initiative with German collaborators to conduct workshops at selected Universities. The first workshop for the University of Jaffna was conducted for three days from 28th September till 1st October 2015, at the conference hall of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science of the University of Jaffna with experts from Germany.
Here, the overall UBL strategy was discussed. It included; (a) UBL initiatives (b) UBL Events and (C) UBL cell organization in detail. Further, the establishment of UBL Cells in the Universities with each cell having its constitution and some core issues of the UBL establishment were also discussed. Some follow up action-based events are also planned to be conducted in near future to strengthen the formation of UBL cells at selected Universities.
Five of the Faculty staff members (Dr. A. Atputharajah, Dr. P. Kathirgamanathan, Dr. Daniel N Subramaniam, Dr. V. Cynthujah and Mr. R. Valluvan) participated to this workshop.
