Cricket matches between Faculty staff and students – organized by E/14 batch

A set of friendly cricket matches were organized between the Faculty staff and students on 7th and 8th October 2015. This was organized by the second batch (E/14) of students. It promotes good social harmony among the staff and students. This was organized in an excellent manner with three teams; staff, first batch and second batch of students. Very enjoyable set of matches, which led the staff to win the toss while students to win the match.

Students obtained third place and two merit awards at the “Undergraduate inventor of the year (UIY) 2015” competition

The Undergraduate Inventor of the Year (UIY) 2015 competition was established by the IESL to encourage and stimulate creativity and interest in inventions among engineering undergraduates and provide opportunities for engineering undergraduates to organize and present their original inventions. It’s also a forum for networking within engineering undergraduates in Sri Lanka as well as members of industry and academia.

First presentation of the postgraduate research degree program of the Faculty of Engineering was held on 2nd October 2015

The faculty of Engineering initiated the postgraduate research degree program through the Faculty of graduate studies of the University of Jaffna. The faculty initiated the postgraduate program by proposing the Board of Study in Engineering, covering engineering disciplines of Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Research and Development is important for the regional, national development of the country while sharing the knowledge internationally. As a result the Faculty of Engineering has opened another degree of services on Research and Development.

University Business Linkages (UBL) workshop

In good old days, Universities were fully recognized based on undergraduate teaching, then it was added with research and development. Today’s era it is also added with innovation and commercialization. As a result the UGC took initiative with German collaborators to conduct workshops at selected Universities. The first workshop for the University of Jaffna was conducted for three days from 28th September till 1st October 2015, at the conference hall of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science of the University of Jaffna with experts from Germany.
