Rohan Jayasundera and Mugunthan Sivayoganathan from Uni of Waterloo visited the Faculty of Engineering

Rohan Jayasundara is one of the very experienced people from the University of Waterloo, served several years and earned a great reputation for Undergraduate teaching from his students. Mugunthan graduated from the University of Peradeniya and obtained his PhD from Ryerson University, Canada and currently working as a postdoctoral research fellow attached to the Department of Mechnical and Mechatronics Engineering at University of Waterloo. Full term Dean was elected to the Faculty of Engineering on 24th June 2015

The faculty was getting towards stable operations with the Acting Dean and Acting Heads’ appointments from November 2013. It has reached to its stable operations with the increased number of PhDs up to five, which enforced the administration to appoint full term Heads for the departments of Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Computer Engineering and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Prof. S. Thevanayagam visited to the Faculty of Engineering

Professor SabanayagamThevanayagam visited to the Faculty on Engineering on 18th June 2015 and spends whole day, discussing with the staff members in different meetings. It was excellent knowledge and experience sharing with the staff members on teaching and research environment at the University at Buffalo. Dr. V. Cynthujah delivered Kickoff lecture on Industrial Training at the Faculty of Agriculture

Dr. V. Cynthujah, the coordinator of the Industrial Training Unit of the Faculty of Engineering, delivered a lecture about the Industrial Training Program at the Faculty of Agriculture. She also share her experience as the Industrial Training Coordinator of Faculty of Engineering with the undergraduates and staff members of the Agriculture Faculty. It was excellent way of sharing the knowledge between the Faculties while helping each other. This event was coordinated by Dr. Thirukumaran, Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture and held on 10th June 2015.

Faculty staff members participated to the Training program on ASSESSMENTS FOR OUTCOME BASED LEARNING

A two day training program on the theme ‘Assessments for outcome based learning’ was conducted by Associate  Prof Lyn Brodie,Faculty of Health, Engineering and Sciences of the University of Southern Queensland, Australia  on June 3rd and 4th, 2015 at Hotel Ozo,Colombo 4. Prof. Lyn Brodie is identified as an expert trainer on Outcome Based Education. This program was organized by the Institution of Engineering Sri Lanka for the selected academic staff member in Sri Lankan Universities.

Industrial Training Program for E/13 Batch Undergraduates of Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna

Students of E/13 batch are undergoing an industrial training program for 12 weeks from 11th May 2015 to 31st July 2015. It is part of their compulsory requirement for their curriculum. This program is scheduled after the third semester of study as a general training session.

Students obtained training from 20 reputed organizations in many part of the country including Colombo, Trincomalee, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Puttalum and Mihinthale. Continue reading

Dr. Sivakumar is appointed as one of the member in the committee under Prime minister’s office in May 2015

Dr. S.S. Sivakumar is appointed as one of the member in the Cabinet Sub Committee on Economic Affairs under Prime minister’s office. This committee is to look into the capacity and capability of the Sri Lanka Railway (SLR) in track-laying meeting international standards. This appointment was made on 6th May 2015.

The Faculty provides its expert services to the national needs while giving the best services to the students. It will also help to establish good links to all possible directions to update the teaching with practical problems experienced by the industries and others.

Vesak Poya day event celebrated by the Faculty students

The faculty students organized a Dansala event during the Vesak Poya day on 4th May 2015. It was a group activity and almost all the students of the faculty were participated. These activities motivate excellent social harmony while creating good team work with social concern. They have prepared a hut at the A9 road at Ariviyal Nagar and donate ice cream to most of the devotees and passengers who are travelling through A9 road. Staff members of the Faculty of Engineering also participated to the event.
