A team of students participated “X-BOTIX Robotic Challenge – 2014” competition

XbotiX 14 is the robotic competition organized by Electrical and Information Engineering Society, IEEE Student Branch, University of Ruhuna and IET Ruhuna Chapter, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, in which the innovative and best young minds within the country to compete head to head to accomplish a unique task using self-designed robots. Undergraduate and school level students are invited to compete in separate categories. Teams are challenged to design, build and program robots to perform a specified task under competition rules and time limits.

A team of students of the first batch Mr. Blasubramaniam Shanthigan, Mr. Sachchithananthan Kanesh, Ms. Tharshikka Vicgneswaran, Ms. Krishnaveni Tharmalingam participated to this event. The team of students was guided by the Mentor Mr. S. Thananjeyan, Lecturer from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The competition was held at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna on 19th November 2014. The name of the robot is AlFe, which was made by the team. The task was to follow the line and to push a box in to the hole. A particular sketch of the task was given to all candidates. The line follower robot (AlFe) was mainly made with Arduino board with the guidance of Mr. S. Thananjeyan and Dr. T. Thiruvaran, Mr. S. Arunan from the Faculty of Engineering University of Jaffna and Mr. T. Jeyjeyanthan from the University of Moratuwa. Over 50 teams from different universities in Sri Lanka including Government and Privates took part in this competition.
