On December 26, 2025, the IEEE PES Student Branch of the University of Jaffna hosted a high-impact webinar titled "Step Inside the IC: Explore Careers & Innovation at Synopsys." The session focused on the specialized world of VLSI design and Electronic Design Automation (EDA), featuring Mr. Vetharaniam Kathircamalan, Senior Director of Applications Engineering at Synopsys Lanka Pvt Ltd. With over 20 years of industry experience and a leadership role in Hardware Assisted Verification R&D, Mr. Kathircamalan provided students with a rare insider’s perspective on the semiconductor industry.

The webinar covered critical topics including an introduction to VLSI, the evolving role of EDA tools, and specific career paths available to Electrical and Electronic Engineering students. A particularly valuable segment was the "CV Clinic," where participants learned exactly what a global tech leader like Synopsys looks for in internship and job candidates.

Regional Agricultural Transformation Training (RATT) Workshop on Novel Agricultural Practices

The University of Jaffna successfully conducted the Regional Agricultural Transformation Training (RATT) workshop at its Kilinochchi premises on 23 December 2025. Organized under the Erasmus+ AGRHI initiative, the programme was designed to introduce young and emerging farmers of the Kilinochchi region to modern and practical approaches in agriculture. The workshop focused on strengthening awareness and skills in soil and water management, protected cultivation, automation, and precision agriculture.

Through technical presentations, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, the workshop provided participants with exposure to innovative farming practices that can support more efficient, resilient, and sustainable agricultural production. The event also reflected the University’s continuing commitment to community outreach, farmer engagement, and the transfer of knowledge from academia to society.
