Students visited to Katcovalam ice factory

During the orientation program of the second batch of the Engineering Faculty, students visited the Katcovalam ice factory, an industrial visit as a part of the orientation program. Complete process of the ice factory was explained very well. Students were very keen to understand the ice factory processes. They questioned about the entrepreneurship and the challenges behind it.

The Katcovalam Ice Factory – Jeyantha Industrial Park (Pvt) Ltd won the First Place at the Provincial Level for Northern Province of the best Small and Medium Scale Industry, which was processed by the Industrial Development Board and organized by the Ministry of Traditional Industries in Sri Lanka. This factory was developed with the help of United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The Engineering Faculty second batch students were sent to this factory on 8th December 2014. It was another excellent opportunity to see the award winning small and medium scale industry. The Chief Executive Officer and Director Eng. Thirunavukkarasu Senthan and his team explained the complete operation of the industry and how they solved all the challenges in setting up this industry to this standard level. Further he explained about the entrepreneurship and the challenges he faced during hisstartup of the company and how he overcame those. He encouraged students to be an entrepreneur. It was very constructive session for the students as they were discussing their views with him.
