The inaugural meeting of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society (EEES) was held on 13th July 2016 (Wednesday) at 4.30 pm at lecture hall 2 of faculty of engineering, University of Jaffna. Complete curriculum developed for the Faculty of Engineering

Detailed and comprehensive curriculum of the Faculty of Engineering is designed and approved by the Senate, University of Jaffna held in July 2016. This was carried out for last three years and finally come to the end. There have been many leading experts from local and foreign universities; and from the industries, helping us to design the curriculum. Dean, heads of the department and the lecturers took diligent care and effort to develop the curriculum to cater the needs of the present needs of engineering industry. The development of curriculum is based on Outcome Base Education (OBE) conforming to Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) requirements (National Standard for Engineering Education), Washington Accord requirements (International Standard for Engineering Education) and Sri Lanka Quality Framework (SLQF) requirements under the category of Bachelor Honours Degrees.

Professor DhayalanVelauthapillai visited to the Faculty

Professor DhayalanVelauthapillai visited to the faculty on 2nd July to have a discussion on future collaborations specially on submitting a NOPART proposal. Dhayalan is a professor from the Faculty of Engineering and Business Administration of the Bergen University College in Norway. The Faculty of Science had already long past historical collaboration with Professor Dhayalan. It was excellent discussions on extending his collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering too. He also see through the facilities available at the Faculty of Engineering including the roof top solar system.

Dr. N. Sathiparan was recruited to the Department of Civil Engineering

Dr. Sathiparan obtained his B.Sc.(Eng) degree from the University of Moratuwa in Year 2002. He received his M.Eng and Ph.D degree from University of Tokyo in Year 2005 and 2008, respectively. He researched in the field of seismic retrofitting masonry structures. He continued this research in the same university as Post-doctoral researcher and JSPS Fellow from October 2008 to March 2011. Before he joined the University of Jaffna, he worked at University of Ruhuna as a Senior Lecturer from Feb 2012 to June 2016.

Mrs. A. Anusuya received full scholarship to pursue her postgraduate studies at the University of New South Wales

Mrs. A. Anusuya received full scholarship to pursue her postgraduate studies at the University of New South Wales, Australia. She served as a Lecturer (Probationary) at the Department of Interdisciplinary studies from June 2014 till June 2016. She left the department on 30th June 2016 to read for her PhD studies in Australia. The faculty thank her services to the Faculty at the beginning stage and wishes her for the best success in her PhD research.

Professor Murugesu Sivapalan visited to the Faculty

Professor M. Sivapalan visited to the faculty on 30th June to have a discussion on future collaborations. It was an excellent discussion with few heads of the department and the dean. He agreed to help in future with the Faculty more closely. The Faculty thank his valuable time on spending with the staff members in discussion and his intention to help the faculty in the future in many different ways.

Eng. S. Niranjanan delivered a talk on “An Overview of Typical Geotechnical Investigation”

Eng. S. Niranjanan, from Diaz Yourman & Associates, California, USA, visited to the Faculty on 27th June 2016 and delivered a talk on an overview of typical geotechnical investigation. This was an excellent overview of how Geotechnical knowledge is used in practice. The students were very well motivated towards geotechnical subject due to the inspiration from the excellent experienced professionals such as Professor N. Ravichandran and Eng. S. Niranjanan.
