Meeting with Consul General India at the University of Jaffna

Indian Consul General Mr. A. Natarajan and Vice Consul Mr. S. Srikanth visited the University of Jaffna to have a discussion with the Vice Chancellor and the Deans of the Faculties. The meeting was held at the Board room of the University of Jaffna, on 13th February 2015. The meeting was with full of fruitful discussions and exchange of ideas, including Government of India’s assistance of 300 million each for Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture. Continue reading

Workshop on ENERGY PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT in Northern Province

This program on “Energy Productivity Improvement” was conducted on 7th February 2015 at the auditorium of District Secretariat office, Jaffna. It was organized and held with the purpose of sharing the knowledge in energy productivity improvements with the government officers, academia and energy experts in the country.  The energy productivity and energy saving are playing a vital role in the developing regions of this nation. At present, Northern Province is a developing area after 30 years of conflict. Therefore, this awareness program was conducted at the appropriate moment through knowledge sharing to the government officers in Jaffna District in collaboration with the University of Jaffna.

Visit of Officials from MAS ACTIVE Factory, Mihinthale to the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna

Managers and Engineers from MAS Active Factory in Mihinthale branch paid an official visit to the Faculty of Engineering on 29th January 2015. They delivered a talk and presentation to the undergraduates and explained the projects that have been handled in their factory to improve the productivity while minimizing the time taken and energy usage. They also focused on improving the safety features in the factory.

Mr. S. Thananjeyan, Lecturer from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, attended five days’ workshop on “Network Security” at Information Technology Center, University of Peradeniya organized by SANOG. The twenty fifth South Asia Network Operators Group (SANOG) conference was hosted by LEARN in the historical city of Kandy, Sri Lanka from 16thto 24thJanuary 2015. 2014 PES Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award to the Faculty Member

Dr. A. Atputharajah was awarded with the outstanding engineer award of IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) chapter 2014. He received this prestigious award during the Annual General Meeting of IEEE PES Sri Lankan Chapter-2014 at University of Moratuwa on 24th January 2015, as a recognition of his outstanding contribution towards power engineering profession. This award remunerates his remarkable services such as his leadership as a chairman of IEEE PES Sri Lanka chapter 2012/13, his immense contribution in field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Sri Lanka and his accomplishment in establishing a new Engineering Faculty in a war affected zone.

Mr. D. S. Sampath received merit award for his paper presented at Young Scientists Forum

Mr. D. S. Sampath participated in the 4th symposium organized by the Young Scientists Forum (YSF) of National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) on 23rd January 2015 at Hector Kobbekaduawa Agriculture Research and Training Institute (HARTI), No.114, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7. Nine technical sessions were conducted during this conference with three parallel sessions as a time.

The Rotary Club of Kilinochchi Town Organized a meeting for potential members from the faculty to learn about Rotaract. The Rotary Club of Kilinochchi town has in its membership; Doctors, Engineers, Directors, Managers, School Principals, Retired Professionals, Business Developers from Private and Public sectors. It is not only a club that has most number of professionals by percentage they have vast hands-on experience in their fields of expertize. It is also recognized as a club that has one of the biggest number of charter members.

Thai Pongal celebration by students of the Faculty of Engineering on 15th January 2015

The first and second batchof students of the Faculty of Engineering celebrated Thai Pongal day on 15th January 2015. They all gathered early in the morning to cook pongal in front of male hostel, Kilinochchi premises and went on to have a brief religious ceremony in front of the administration building of the Faculty of Engineering. The guys worked together in harmony to organize the event and finished it at a successful note. They shared delicious pongal with everybody in the premises that day. This is the first ever Thai Pongal event celebrated in the history of the Faculty of Engineering.
