Kilinochchi School development proposal submitted to His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna closely worked with Kilinochchi Madhya Maha Vidyalayam to develop a proposal on improving infrastructure and human resources of the school. The crew comprised of the Principal, Vice Principal, School Works Engineer and Teachers of the Kilinochchi Madhya Maha Vidyalayam were determined to bring the school to an outstanding position in Northern Province. Visiting Researcher to the Faculty of Engineering

Eng. S.Kuganesan engages with research works of Jaffna lagoon under the supervision of Dr. (Eng.) S.S.Sivakumar at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna. He will be with the Faculty for one month from mid July 2014. Eng. Kuganesan is currently working as a Hydro-power/Water Resources Engineer in Energy Division at Norconsult AS, leading engineering and design consultancy in Norway.

India sign MOU with Ministry of Higher Education to assist the Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture at Kilinochchi

The Government of India has partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka to assist the Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture for the University of Jaffna at Kilinochchi. A Memorandum of Understanding between the two Governments for the implementation of this project was signed on 14th July 2014 between the High Commissioner of India, Mr. Y.K. Sinha and the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne, in the presence of Honorable S.B. Dissanayake, Minister of Higher Education, Government of Sri Lanka and Professor Vasanthy Arasaratnam, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna.

Jaffna University and Kelani Cables PLC are in vital connection through MOU

An agreement was reached on 17th June 2014 between the University of Jaffna and Kelani Cables for a training program that would involve training electrical technicians, with input from the University of Jaffna. This will be done through the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering at Kilinochchi. The MoU signed this week would initiate training of young school leavers from the North who could develop their skills, subject to aptitude for such work. Further the agreement includes getting the industrial support to provide industrial training, industrial projects to embed the students education with the industrial nature.

The founder students’ society was established on 16th June 2014 at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna. The committee members of the society were selected by unanimously by the students. Dr. T. Thiruvaran is nominated as Senior Treasurer for the society. Electronic dice as an Electronic Souvenir for the First Batch of Engineering Students

Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah, Head of School of Electrical Engineering & Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales in Australia has donated components and the associated circuit diagram to make an electronic dice as an Electronic Souvenir for the first batch of Engineering students at the University of Jaffna. Each student was given the components and the circuit diagram and the students are expected to solder the components according to the diagram to produce an electronic dice and when the students successfully solder it that will be their souvenir. Students were very much interested in preparing their surprised souvenirs. This is not only a memorable souvenir but also it develops practical skills while motivating the students. This event was held during 1st week of June 2014.

Establishing of Engineering Studentship

This scheme is planned to keep the fund in the fixed deposit and release the interest to provide studentship. Few well-wishers have already donated money to establish this engineering studentship. Mr. Sunith Fernando (300,000 rupees), ” Nalan Virumbi ” (400,000 rupees) and Mr. Noel Selvanayagam (1,200,000 rupees) have helped the faculty by donating the money to establish this studentship.
