Dr. Ravi is specialized in the multi-disciplinary field of wearable physiological information monitoring systems. He received his PhD from University of Manchester UK from the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences in 2005. His PhD has resulted the first electro mechanics model for the electro conductive fabric structures and Novel Fiber Meshed Transducers for wearable physiological information monitoring systems. His work has produced two international Patents and startup companies as smart life technologies Inc UK and in Textronics Inc USA.
In 2005, Dr. Ravi for his contribution to the field of wearable physiological information monitoring systems received EB-1 green card from U.S. government, a category for internationally recognized researchers with extraordinary ability. Prior to joining University of Jaffna Dr. Ravi has worked at Textronics inc™ DE, USA, Dupont™ and Invista™ spinoff, later bought by adidas™ as the principle research engineer (2005-2007). He also worked at Consumer Testing Laboratories AR USA as the programming and softlines Engineer (2007- 2009) in the compliance team.
Ravi has started a startup company Relisen™ in Bentonville AR USA, developing heart rate monitors that worked under extreme conditions. His work has been demonstrated at international tradeshows in USA and China (2009-2013). He also worked at Kotalawala Defense University of Sri Lanka (2013 -2015) and University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka (2015-2016) as a senior lecturer Grade I.
He is an invited reviewer in IEEE sensors Journal. He is a member of SPIE (www.spie.org) and BMES (www.BMES.org).
