Indo-Lanka Collaborative Effort Helps Amputees Take Their Next Step

For many amputees in the North and East, especially those affected by the war, mobility has long been a quiet struggle[cite: 1]. This year, the Center for Prosthetics of the University of Jaffna began a renewed humanitarian phase with partners in India and the Sri Lankan diaspora to support war-affected amputees[cite: 1]. Supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), Canada Sri Lanka Business Convention (CSBC), and guided by Professor K. Chelvakumar, a first group of 21 amputees travelled to IIT Gandhinagar from 5 to 9 March 2025 where the Spark Minda Foundation and Saksham program produced and fitted new customized prosthetic limbs[cite: 1].
