“Spaghetti Bridge Competition organized by SLIIT Campus”

SLIIT university organized a Spaghetti bridge competition on 7th December 2024. Although 55 groups from all state and private universities of Sri Lanka registered for the event, 42 groups from were actively participated on the day. Some of the participated universities are University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya, University of South-Eastern etc. From Department of Civil Engineering, University of Jaffna, six teams participated, and their details are given in below table. This time students were asked to construct only truss bridges which was different from previous year arch shape bridges. Hence Department organized a practicing workshop for all groups. The competition started at 8.30 AM morning and ended at 7 PM with price giving. The Dean of SLIIT Eng Prof Ajantha Gomes, Associate Dean Dr (Eng) Gopiraj Tharamarajah, Head Dr Janaka Perera, Dr Chandima, Dr Dhammika Dayaratne and other staff members from SLIIT and staff members from South-Eastern also participated in the event. Dr B Janarthanan, Eng Ahamed MAR and Eng Kisotharan participated from our faculty.
As part of the preparation for this competition, we also conducted an Inter-Faculty Bridge Competition on 21st November 2024. This preliminary event provided valuable practice and exposure for our students, helping them refine their designs and techniques before participating in the SLIIT competition.
