Tech talk on “Grid Stability in the Renewable Energy Era - Role of FACTS Devices”

Date: 14 March 2026  |
Location: Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna

A technical talk on “Grid Stability in the Renewable Energy Era: Role of FACTS Devices” and “Power Quality Improvement Using STATCOM” are organized on 14 March 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna.

The session was conducted by Prof. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya and Former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna. The talk focused on the stability and power-quality challenges faced by modern power systems due to the increasing integration of renewable energy sources.

Around 50 students and academic staff members participated in the session. The discussion on FACTS devices, particularly STATCOM technology, provided valuable insights into voltage stability improvement and power quality enhancement in renewable-integrated grids. The interactive session also gave students an opportunity to clarify research-related problems and gain expert guidance directly from Prof. Atputharajah, making the event highly beneficial for both academic and research development. This event is organized by IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter of the University of Jaffna.
