Workshop on Water Conflicts Resolution, Treatment & Desalination.

Department of Civil engineering, University of Jaffna organized a successful workshop on water conflicts resolution, treatment and desalination on 18th and 19th of April 2015 Workshop covered research areas of reverse osmosis, water treatment, conflict resolution, climate change and resilience of water bodies and few more related to water. This workshop was funded by Water and Society (WaSo) Project of University of Jaffna.

Sports activity between staffs and students

The first time in large scale, the sports activities were conducted on 1st April 2015 at the playground of the Kilinochchi premises of the University of Jaffna. It was excellent entertainment event between the staff and students. All the staff and students from both batches of the Faculty of Engineering were participated. Cricket and netball were conducted. Finally excellent performances of the young bloods of students were very well appreciated all the staff and few presents were awarded to the students.

Australian-Sri Lankan University Partnerships to develop community based waste recycling business – first meeting and awareness program

Professor Eric Feinblatt from the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering of the University of Western Australia headed the team visited to the Faculty of Engineering University of Jaffna. He delivered an awareness talk to the students of the Faculty of Engineering on 26th March 2015 focusing on the students’ role on supporting the project to develop a community based waste recycling business in this region.

Faculty students won the first prize on debate competition held at University of Jaffna.

A debate team consists of four members from our faculty emerged as champions in a debate competition organized by Department of Law on 13th March 2015 at the main campus of the University of Jaffna. The guys went on to clinch the title by defeating the teams from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Management. The members of the debate team are Messrs. B. Nilakshan, R. Neethan, Mudiththa Kumarasri and Salinda Lankapriya. The faculty of engineering proudly congratulates them for such an incredible performance and wish them all the best.n

D. S. Sampath presented paper at an International Conference

Mr. Sampath presented a paper at an International Symposium on Advances in Civil and Environmental Engineering Practices for Sustainable Development (ACEPS 2015) at Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Hapugala, Galle on 9th March 2015. Conference was jointly organized by Department of Civil Engineering, University of Ruhuna and Saitama University, Japan. This symposium is organized to create a forum to discuss such advanced sustainable engineering practices that are adopted in developing the region.

He has presented one of his master research finding in the technical session of “Costal and Lagoon Environment (Part I) & River Engineering and Hydro informatics”.

Donation from Eng. P. Vigneswaran

Eng. P. Vigneswaran, Director of oortu organization, donated equipment and furniture. A discussion on enhancing the services of the Faculty of Engineering was held at Oortu office in September 2014. This is to serve the community by uplifting their knowledge and skill through vocational education. It was planned to start the electrician course linking with Kelani Cable industry. There were few items of equipment and furniture categories were donated related to the vocational training on electrician, masonry and carpentry. Miss. H. Krishnarajah, Lecturer from the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, attended a training workshop on “Biomass to Energy in Industrial Applications” held from 19th – 21st February 2015 at MAS Fabric Park, Thulhiriya. The three days training program organized by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority with GEF-UNDP-FAO Funded Project on “Promoting Sustainable Biomass Energy Production and Modern Bio-energy Technologies in Sri Lanka”. Meeting with Consul General India at the University of Jaffna

Indian Consul General Mr. A. Natarajan and Vice Consul Mr. S. Srikanth visited the University of Jaffna to have a discussion with the Vice Chancellor and the Deans of the Faculties. The meeting was held at the Board room of the University of Jaffna, on 13th February 2015. The meeting was with full of fruitful discussions and exchange of ideas, including Government of India’s assistance of 300 million each for Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture. Continue reading
