Students visited to Iranamadu Irrigation Development Project

The second batch of students visited the Iranamadu Irrigation Development Project (IIDP) site and its office on 2nd December 2014 afternoon. The IIDPis one of the major projects where the Engineering is applied for the direct benefit of the community. Deputy Director Eng. N. Suthaharan,together with his team of Engineers, explained the project concept, challenges and how engineering is applied together with other common knowledge.

Mr. D. S. Sampath joined the Department of Civil Engineering

Mr. Saliya Sampath joined the Department of Civil Engineering in the capacity of Lecturer (Probationary) from 1st December 2014. He earned BScEng Degree from University of Peradeniya in 2012. He served as an irrigation Engineer attached to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) for a period of 5 months. Later he joined the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya as a Research Assistant for a period of 2 years. He is affiliated to the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Jaffna and reading for his Master of Philosophy degree at Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya, at present. Inaugural event of the orientation program of the second batch of students

The orientation program for the second batch started on 1st December 2014 with an inauguration program. It was a very brief event with Senior Professor K. Kandasamy (represented the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna), Dean, Heads of the Departments and president of the students society and the students of previous batch. All the fresh students including few parents participated in the event. After the inauguration program all male students were given accommodation at two houses that are hired outside the University premises.

Online registration is opened for the second batch students from 7th November 2014 onwards

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna has already launched the online registration procedure. Please click on the links of “students” and “students registration” to proceed the registration. This will avoid unnecessary delay during the registration. Mr. S. Arunan, from the Department of Computer Engineering, prepared this registration arrangement. The faculty staff team of the registration committee worked together to minimize the time taken for student registration to one and half minutes per student and it is expected to be reduced further in future. The second batch is expected to complete their registration by submitting all relevant documents between 10:00a.m.and 12:00noon on 26th November 2014 at the Faculty of Engineering, Kilinochchi.

Dr. V. Cynthujah joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering.

Dr. V. Cynthujah received her PhD degree from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia in 2014. She received BSc. Eng. Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with first class honours from University of Peradeniya (UOP), Sri Lanka in 2010. She was a researcher and demonstrator in University of Peradeniya, from 2010-2011 and a write-up scholar and teaching assistant in QUT, Australia from May 2014 to November 2014.
